Daniel Mills- 7/2001 - The Appleseed Cast in Leeds, England.

Wow.
Just, Wow.
Well after a 210 mile journey on Tuesday, driving from Swindon to my home town of Oldham, then being told it'll take me a good hour and a half to get to Leeds from Oldham during the rush traffic, I was somewhat annoyed that after leaving at 6:15pm, that I proceded to arrive in Leeds at 6:40pm..
However, after getting distinctly lost trying to find Josephs Well, getting so close as to be able to see the sign on the outside of the building, but Uh, being on the wrong side of a ring road bridge.. Finally pulled up in the car park at 7:45pm.. Uh..
Anyways! Pylon, saw them supporting JTB last year, and they've come on leaps and bounds. Still slightly Promise Ring-y, but any other definition defies them, S'good stuff, we even got card tricks thrown into the deal, Can't ask for more really, even if they do come from Wakefield..
Stapleton, I was rather excited when I read they were playing, and Wow, they're rather good. Off kilter, power emo rock thang.
Sometree, upon looking at the three men with guitars on stage, Well, to be honest, they looked like an 80's classic rock cover band.. BUT.. sadly we were dissapointed, as they then proceded to churn out some rather astounding music, difficult to define, but crackin' to immerse yourself in.
And finally! The Appleseed Cast! Well, simply breathtaking, They seem a lot more relaxed and comfortable with performing than they did last time they were here, but I think that through all the bands I've seen it's something that is common throughout, and by no means a bad thing. Announcing after 4 songs they were out of time, didn't go down too well, and in typical Manchester/Leeds style, nobody moved and demanded they play more, So, they did, and Yay! Mostly playing a balanced mixture of material from Mare Vit. and LLO1, and ending with a simply stunning version of a song I really should know the name of (although on recollection it's the final track on Mare Vit.) lasting well over 10 minutes.
Cobra is a machine, it's official.
Meandered out to the car park, drenched in sweat and feeling sufficiently charged with intense energy, despite being utterly shattered, and THEN, managing to get lost trying to get out of Leeds... Was quite an adventure..
Then realising whilst tootling along at 95 on an empty motorway, that I in fact, had very little petrol left, so speeding up in an attempt to get to a petrol station, getting to the petrol station, putting the handbrake on, to have the car splutter, then actually run out of petrol, was quite amusing.
Come back Appleseed Cast, we miss you already.
